Hangover Symptoms
The updated NoMo Bands collection safely addresses the physiological reasons for hangovers and the effects they bring. The first thing it addresses is the migraines caused by dehydration. Since alcohol is a diuretic, people who drink too much may develop a headache. The bands feature an uplifting peppermint scent which has been studied to reduce the effects of nausea.

Causes of Hangovers
Dehydration is the ultimate cause of a hangover headache. Your brain and spinal cord are bathed in fluid called cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) and your brain is floating in it but attached to the top of the skull by thin strings called meninges. When you drink lots of alcohol it causes you to pee because its a diuretic, so the fluid surrounding your brain gets depleted and your brain starts to sag. These strings attaching your brain to the skull are pulled on and sends a signal of globalized head pain, hence the dreaded hangover headache.
This is especially important if you’ve drunk too much alcohol the night before! Numerous studies have found that alcoholic beverages produce a compound called acetaldehyde which triggers an inflammatory response in the body. When in excess, acetaldehyde can cause dizziness, motion sickness, and light and sound sensitivity.
Congeners content causes the worst hangovers. These are the by product of alcohol breakdown and are usually found in dark liquors like brandy, bourbon, dark beers, and red wines. Particular congener called methanol breaks down into formaldehyde and formic acid, which can worsen a hangover. Have you ever heard someone say "I'm allergic to alcohol?" That is a true fact. Some people (genetically for people of Asian descent) lack the enzyme 2E1, or it just doesn't work well enough, that is responsible for breaking down alcohol. They get what's called "flush face," a global redness of their cheeks which is their bodies response to handling any allergic reaction by producing histamine causing the redness.
What to drink for a hangover?
An 8oz glass of water should be drank for every alcoholic beverage. This will help with the dehydration portion. According to studies, different alcoholic beverages produce various levels of acetaldehyde, with beer producing the least amounts to whiskey having the highest. Those who drink are warned that the higher the acetaldehyde levels are, the more severe the inflammatory response will be.
What does hair of the dog mean?
Hair of the dog by definition is a hangover myth stating if you drink more alcohol the day after heavy drinking it will help to alleviate unpleasant hangover symptoms like headache, dehydration, upset stomach, nausea, and fatigue. While there is some science showing that after you are drinking your alcohol 2E1 enzyme is working overtime trying to breakdown the alcohol so it gets over worked and then goes into a drought. Your body likes to be at a steady state, or status quo, so it does everything it needs to form a new normal. When hungover, your body goes into a withdraw period (alcohol withdraw can have serious side effects), so giving your body a small amount of alcohol again may help it to alleviate a small amount of day after symptoms. The best thing to do is drink lots of water.
